Was Beziehungen über Ihre Weltsicht verraten
Schaffen Sie bitte Beziehungen, indem Sie zuordnen, was Ihrer Meinung und Weltsicht nach zusammengehört. Huhn, Gras, Kuh. Treffen Sie Ihre Wahl. Gut und noch eine Runde: Panda, Affe, Banane. Okay. Wie lauten Ihre Paarungen?
So eine komische Übung, denken Sie vielleicht jetzt. Was soll das überhaupt?
In der Tat, das ist eine kleine interkulturelle Übung, die Forscher Menschen aus Südost-Asien und den USA machen ließen, die Aufschluss über unsere Weltsicht gibt. Das Ergebnis: Es gibt deutliche Unterschiede.
Unterschiedliche Weltsicht
Während Menschen im Westen nach Kategorien gruppieren, fügen Asiaten bevorzugt die Begriffe nach Beziehung zusammen.
Also: Huhn und Kuh ist aus westlicher Sicht eine passende Gruppe, weil beides Tiere sind. In Asien hingegen gehören Kuh und Gras zusammen. Ganz einfach deshalb, weil die Kuh Gras frisst. Sie können sich schon denken, wie das bei Beispiel zwei aussieht. Richtig: Tier zu Tier im Westen und Affe zu Banane in Asien.
Wir machen gleich noch ein wenig weiter, um der Vermutung nachzuspüren, dass die Weltsicht auf die Dinge in Ost und West ziemlich verschieden ist.
Let’s play
Mütter bekamen Spielzeug, das ihre Kinder so noch nicht kannten. Ein Auto zum Beispiel.
In den USA legten die Mütter los und erklärten dem Kind: „Schau, das ist ein Auto. Es ist rot. Da sind vier Reifen, ein Auspuff. Was ist das? Es ist ein Auto. Schau mal. Welche Farbe hat das Auto? Okay, rot.“ Sie können sich vorstellen, wie das weiter ging. Möglicherweise hätten Sie es genau so gemacht.
In Japan sah es etwas anders aus. Die Mütter spielten nach folgendem Muster: „Schau mal, das ist ein Auto. Mama freut sich, wenn sie dir ein Auto geben kann. Freust du dich auch über das Auto? Komm, nimm das Auto. Das ist fein. Du freust dich sicherlich. Jetzt gib Mama das Auto wieder. Mama sagt danke für das Auto. Schau, jetzt mag das Auto wieder zu dir…“
Ziemlich verschieden. Während die amerikanischen Mütter dem Kind erklären, was ein Auto ist, indem sie auf seine Bestandteile und Eigenschaften verweisen, setzen die japanischen Mütter das Auto in den Kontext von Beziehung. Es geht um Freude machen, schenken, teilen.
Interdependent vs independent
Zig solcher Tests gibt es. Mit ihnen wurde festgestellt, dass die Sicht der Menschen auf die Welt kulturell geprägt ist. Asien nimmt bevorzugt beziehungsorientiert wahr. Der Westen fokussiert eher einzelne Objekte. Weitwinkel im Osten, Zoom im Westen.
Als interdependent und independent beschreibt die Wissenschaft die Sicht auf die Welt, die jeweils verschiedenen Denkmustern entspringt.
Woher kommt’s?
Die griechische Philosophie, die den Westen prägt, richtete ihren Blick auf den einzelnen Menschen mit seinen je besonderen Fähigkeiten. Dem gegenüber nahm die asiatische Tradition das größere Ganze in seinen vielfältigen Beziehungen zueinander in den Blick. Der Mensch im Westen hat Rechte, der im Osten hat Pflichten. Im Westen stellt man sich dem Wettbewerb und nimmt in Olympia an den Wettkämpfen teil, während man im Osten Teil eines großen Netzwerks ist, das in Harmonie und Balance bleibt, wenn jeder seine ihm zugewiesene Rolle erfüllt.
Je mehr im Osten, desto größer wird Interdependenz geschrieben. Je mehr wir in den Westen kommen, desto wichtiger wird das Individuum, das seine Independenz betont.
Nachwirkungen bis heute – auch in Indien und Deutschland
Diese Muster wirken bis heute. Nun fragen Sie, was das jetzt mit Indien zu tun hat.
Richtig: Indien ist viel beziehungsorientierter als wir das im Westen sind. Das merken Sie schon allein an der Kommunikation, die mehr braucht als nur Zahlen, Daten, Fakten.
Kommunikationsmäßig sind wir in Deutschland low context-mäßig unterwegs. Das heißt, wir nehmen nur das wahr, was schwarz auf weiß auf dem Papier ist. Zwischen den Zeilen lesen wir eher nicht. In Indien ist der Kontext super wichtig. Wer was wie sagt – darauf kommt es an.
Unsere Arbeitsweise ist sehr strukturiert. Für alles machen wir einen Plan und den arbeiten wir Schritt für Schritt ab. Wir vereinbaren smarte Ziele und definieren Meilensteine auf dem Weg dahin. Selbstverständlich erfüllen wir die Meilensteine pünktlich und mögen es nicht, wenn uns unser Chef über die Schulter schaut und uns sagt, was wir zu tun haben. Das ist unsere Weltsicht.
Uns ist unsere Unabhängigkeit wichtig. Wir sind doch nicht blöd und brauchen nicht diese Gängelei. Wäre ja noch schöner. Schließlich sind wir selbstständig und haben unseren Kopf nicht nur deshalb auf, damit es oben nicht rein regnet.
Seitenwechsel nach Indien, wo Interdependenz priorisiert wird: Das Team ist wie eine Familie. Jede und jeder hat eine bestimmte Rolle zu erfüllen mit unterschiedlichen Verantwortlichkeiten. Die Kommunikation ist intensiv, schließlich muss man auf dem Laufenden sein und wissen, woran jede und jeder gerade arbeitet.
Verantwortung des Chefs ist es, engmaschig zu schauen, dass jeder seine Pflicht erfüllt. Schließlich geht es ums große Ganze, zu dem jede und jeder beiträgt, so wie es ihr und sein dharma (Pflicht) ist. Was wir als Gängelei von oben empfinden, interpretieren indische Kollegen und Kolleginnen eher als Fürsorge seitens des Chefs. Dieses Feedback wird wertgeschätzt.
Sie sehen schon: Independent vs Interdependent. Dieses Muster kommt hier interkulturell voll zum Tragen. Es ist ein Stück interkultureller Kompetenz, darum zu wissen und entsprechend damit umzugehen.
Praxistipp für Ihre verbesserte Zusammenarbeit mit indischen Kollegen und Kolleginnen
Es gilt, Brücken zu schlagen zwischen den Welten. So kann es in der Zusammenarbeit mit Indien eine gute Idee sein, sich von sogenannten Standup Meetings inspirieren zu lassen und in kurzen Abständen eine schnelle Runde von 15 Minuten zu machen, in der jede und jeder erzählt, an was sie und er gestern gearbeitet hat, heute tut und wo sie und er gerade blockiert wird.
So sind alle auf dem Laufenden und wissen umeinander. Es wird geteilt, was wichtig ist. Schnell, lösungsorientiert, mit klarer Zuständigkeit und Verbindlichkeit. Mit ehrlichem Feedback.
